Main Goal

Trying to finally lose those pesky 20 pounds that are weighing me down. Been trying to conceive for more than 4 years with the one success (2 years ago) ending in miscarriage. I don't want to go through that again and if proper eating and exercise can help my chances for a healthy pregnancy, then I am up for the challenge and the lifestyle change! :-)

Previous Diets

You name it... I've probably tried it.

Favorite Workouts

None. I hate working out but I understand that it is an "acquired" joy. Haven't acquired it yet myself but hope to! :-)

Things To Do Before I Die

**Have a baby (hopefully). **Start my own business. **Visit Hawaii, San Francisco, Australia, and so many more places (I am a travel bug!!).

Favorite Activities

Photography is my number one favorite passtime! I also love dancing, singing, and... let's face it... EATING! Hopefully I will learn to love eating less, though, so that I can reach my weightloss goals.

Favorite Music

Top 40, Country, Latin, Rock, Oldies, Reggae... ah, heck... I like almost all types of music except heavy metal.

Favorite Movies

Where to begin? I love so many different movies. I guess my top 5 would be Dumb and Dumber, The Goonies, Dirty Dancing, Grease, and Shakespeare In Love, but there are so, so many more!

Favorite TV Shows

The Office, The Sopranos, LOST, Extreme Home Makeover, and anything on HGtv! :-)

Favorite Books

Tuesdays with Morrie and The Alchemist

About Me

I am a teacher by trade (taught high school Spanish for 5 years) but have been in the business world since 2000. I love my current job (Kaplan Test Prep) but the travel is taking a toll on my weight (which has been a constant struggle for me my whole life). I get zero exercise, work 10-15 hours per day, and eat out at weird hours since I am on the road so much. I am determined to get healthier (and skinnier) this year and being a member of this website is part of my motivation.

I found site that calculates nutritional info for home recipes called sparkrecipes.
According to their counts, based on a batch making about 18 servings, each muffin has:

Calories 169.7
Total Fat 3.4 g
Saturated Fat 1.7 g
Polyunsaturated Fat 0.5 g
Monounsaturated Fat 0.9 g
Cholesterol 17.2 mg
Sodium 146.9 mg
Potassium 380.1 mg
Total Carbohydrate 32.9 g
Dietary Fiber 4.3 g
Sugars 12.0 g
Protein 5.4 g
Vitamin A 3.4 %
Vitamin B-12 3.1 %
Vitamin B-6 9.8 %
Vitamin C 0.9 %
Vitamin D 0.3 %
Vitamin E 1.4 %
Calcium 8.4 %
Copper 9.2 %
Folate 8.8 %
Iron 9.6 %
Magnesium 19.3 %
Manganese 82.0 %
Niacin 8.0 %
Pantothenic Acid 5.6 %
Phosphorus 17.0 %
Riboflavin 8.8 %
Selenium 19.6 %
Thiamin 9.8 %
Zinc 9.6 %

Keep in mind, most of the sugar content is from the fruits, which is much healthier than processed sugars. Hopefully these can fit into your diet. The only guilt I've experienced with them is how good I feel the rest of the day. ;)
I'll put the nutrition info below for a bran muffin you can get at Dunkin Donuts so you can compare what you would normally get if you were to just order a bran muffin while running around. It's pretty representative of whats out there.
